Description

A rooted performer is a powerful performer. In this discussion and activity-based course, students will gain the discipline and tools to stay grounded in Christ as a performer in a secular world. Students will read, discuss, and apply lessons from "Acting in Faith" by Michael Kary, as well as from John 15. This in-depth class will challenge performers to both deepen their faith and strengthen their performance skills, preparing them to be steadfast and successful in their future.

Objectives:
  1. Integrate Faith and Performance: Teach students to apply Christian principles to their performance practice, fostering a strong spiritual foundation (Anchor Standard 11: Relate artistic ideas and works with societal, cultural, and historical context).
  2. Develop Discipline and Focus: Encourage students to cultivate discipline and focus in their artistic endeavors, drawing on their faith for guidance and strength (Anchor Standard 10: Synthesize and relate knowledge and personal experiences to make art).
  3. Strengthen Performance Skills: Enhance students' overall performance abilities, including emotional depth, authenticity, and stage presence, grounded in their personal faith (Anchor Standard 5: Develop and refine artistic techniques and work for presentation).
