Let's Talk About Some Plans

As we begin to plan for our return to CYT in the physical buildings, It might feel more “normal” than our current online experience, but the virus will be a constant risk. Consequently, we need a planned, thoughtful response in order to re-establish an experience where everyone feels comfortable attending safely. Further, and more importantly, we want to ensure that we are creating an environment that reduces the risk of COVID-19 transmission to the extent possible among our staff, students, and the community—not just for a few weeks, but for the foreseeable future.

To help CYT Dallas better plan for the future, we've created a survey that we are asking Matilda families to participate in. We are asking that every current show family participate in this survey.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES

  • Our plans will align with local, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Ongoing review of this plan will take place with changes implemented and communicated as they occur.
  • Preserving staff, and student privacy will be prioritized.

Classes Update

  • Spring 2020 classes were canceled on March 24th.
  • Spring 2020 classes were moved online starting March 31st. Thank you to all of our amazing Teaching Artists who have worked tirelessly converting their classes to an online platform.
  • In an effort to do our part to reduce the risk of COVID-19, we have canceled all May events for CYT including our Spring Showcase. While we are sad about this, we feel it is the best decision at this time.
  • The Straight Play Performance of You Can't Take It With You has been postponed to July 27-30th.
  • We look forward to being back in person for CYT classes in late August 2020.
  • Texas will continue to issue updates and recommendations as time goes on, and CYT Dallas intends to implement these protocols fully so that we can host our students safely!

Summer Camp Updates

As things improve in our state, Texas will continue issuing Summer Camp protocols, and we intend to implement these protocols fully. We will update our response as we learn more.
  • Due to circumstances beyond our control, Teen Retreat 2020 has been canceled. We will not be planning a Teen Retreat replacement. Account credits will be provided for all those who registered. Should you desire a refund, please email shannon@cytdallas.org.
  • Our Summer Stock production of Bye Bye Birdie has been canceled. We are inviting all students who have registered to join the cast of Matilda. For those already cast in Matilda, account credits will be provided. Should you desire a refund, please email shannon@cytdallas.org.
  • Our Aladdin Camp is currently scheduled as planned.

Production Updates

  • Matilda is postponed; new production dates are July 24th-August 2nd. The show will perform for two weekends in the Black Box at the MCL Grand Theater.
  • CYT Dallas has been in communication with the City of Lewisville regarding policies and sanitation procedures of the MCL Grand. As those plans are being finalized, they will be shared with all staff, patrons, and cast members/families.
  • Rehearsals for Matilda will resume in June 2020. See our rehearsal plans below.
  • The majority of production meetings will be moved online.
Here are a few things we'll be doing to make our productions safer:
  • A pre-show email will go out to patrons that will offer free exchanges for anyone not feeling well. Additionally, the email will have a reminder of symptoms to look for and recommendations for patrons to take their temperature before they leave the house on the day of the performance, even if they have no symptoms. Patrons will also be asked if they have CDC identified symptoms including sore throat, chills, cough, shortness of breath, and fever over 100.4.
  • No physical tickets / Will Call – electronic tickets only.
  • No physical playbills - electronic only.
  • We will open the house 45 minutes before our performances to allow ample time for patrons to be seated.
  • We will have sanitation stations available for patrons.
  • We will NOT have meet-and-greets after performances.

I’m thankful for CYT because it’s a place where you can meet long-lasting friends, improve as a performer, grow closer to Him, and have fun all at the same time!

Lauren, CYT Student

5th Anniversary Season

As tradition in CYT Dallas, we planned to announce our 2020-21 Season at our Spring Showcase. With the cancellation of Spring Showcase, our season announcement has been postponed. We have been approved and received contracts for all of our shows for next season. When we are able to, we will join to announce and celebrate our 5th Anniversary Season.
